In the eighties Vaujany was targeted by the French government for one of its largest hydro-electric schemes. The millions of francs paid to locals in compensation for barren land they would never miss allowed this degenerating farming community to put their heads and windfalls together and create a charming and dynamic winter sports destination.

Over 20 years ago I was fortunate to visit Vaujany as its facilities were starting to be developed and I realised that this quintessentially rural French village right on the doorstep of Alpe d'Huez, one of the most extensive ski areas in Europe had tremendous potential as a ski resort with a difference.

It was clear to me that the residents of Vaujany had no intention of developing their village into a brash sterile concrete resort populated nightly by teens and twenty-somethings having a good time at the expense of their neighbours by making as much noise as possible until the early hours of the morning.

Vaujany had a charm and tranquility of its own which I felt would fit better both with families who wanted to ski knowing that their young children were being looked after safely and an older generation of skiers who wanted exceptional skiing facilities during the day, a high standard of accommodation to return to and the very best of cuisine in the evening.

Over the years we have developed our service and our chalets and we now offer a choice of accommodation to suit everyone, from our charming two star Hotel Le Rissiou which is renowned for its excellent cuisine, through our prestigious 5 star Oisans Apartments and several fully catered chalets in the nearby satellite hamlet of La Villette. We are also very proud of our award winning Superchaletfragilistic Chalet Saskia which is perched on the edge of a wooded meadow only three minutes walk from the main cable car, offering a choice of ten bedrooms all with their own balcony.
